About Niall Campbell

Originally from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, Niall Campbell is a poet, librettist and editor.

Moontide, his first collection, was published by Bloodaxe Books in 2014. It won the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award and Saltire First Book of the Year, as well as being shortlisted for the Forward Prize Best First Collection. His second collection, Noctuary, was released in 2019 and shortlisted for the Forward Prize Best Collection. A selection of these two books was released in the US as First Nights as part of the Princeton Series of Contemporary Poets.

The Island in the Sound, his latest book of poetry, is published in September of 2024.

As librettist, Niall has worked with the composer Anna Appleby on the opera Drought, which was performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022. More recently, he has begun a collaboration with the Scottish composer Jay Capperauld. Their choral piece, The Night Watch, is included in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s summer tour for 2024.
